Detailed Itinerary
Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, you will be welcomed at Tribhuvan International Airport and transferred to your hotel. Take the day to relax and prepare for your trek.
Early morning, take a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur and then drive through the lush tea gardens and rolling hills to reach Illam (3636m), the heart of Nepal’s tea region.
Today, drive from Illam to Sekathum following the trailhead into the rugged wilderness of the Kanchenjunga region.
Begin your trek with a steady climb from Sekathum to Amjilosa (2510m), a 6–7 hour journey through narrow gorges, suspension bridges, and bamboo forests.
Continue your trek to pass waterfalls and encounter scattered settlements of Tibetan-influenced culture.
Trek from Gyabla to Ghunsa, ascending through rhododendron and pine forests to reach this picturesque Sherpa village.
Rest and acclimatization day in Ghunsa; take short hikes around or visit the ancient monastery and learn about the local customs.
Trek to Nango La Camp, ascending steadily above the treeline with panoramic mountain views unfolding.
Cross the Nango La Pass and descend to Yangma Khola trek, following remote valleys and pristine alpine landscapes.
Trek from Yangma Khola to Olangchung Gola, a culturally rich Tibetan village known for its monastery and unique dialect.
The trail ascends gradually to reach South High Camp, offering stunning views of the Lumba Sumba Himal.
Trek to Lumba Sumba Pass, navigating rugged alpine terrain. Overnight, just below the pass to prepare for the crossing.
A highlight day as you cross the Lumba Sumba Pass (5159m), the highest point of the trek, and descend to Thudam, a remote village, in 6 hours.
Trek from Thudam to Chyantang, descending into forested ridges and lower altitudes.
Continue to Hongon, a small village inhabited by diverse ethnic communities.
Trek to Bakim Kharka or High Camp, ascending gradually through mixed forest and grazing lands.
From High Camp, hike to Molun Pokhari, a serene alpine lake offering breathtaking surroundings.
A trek brings you to Dhunge Kharka, descending through yak pastures and alpine meadows.
Rest day or buffer day in case of poor weather or delays, ensuring safe pacing of the trek.
From Molun Pokhari, trek uphill to Kalo Kharka, with majestic views along the ridge.
Descend to Kalo Pokhari, a dark glacial lake revered by locals and surrounded by alpine flora.
Trek from Kalo Pokhari to Grazing Kharka, a peaceful meadow often dotted with yak herders’ camps.
Continue trekking to Yangla Kharka, nestled along the Barun River with views of the towering cliffs.
Hike to Langmale Kharka, a base for acclimatisation before heading to Makalu Base Camp.
Take a rest day in Langmale Kharka; you may hike up nearby ridges for better acclimatization and views of Makalu and Peak 6.
Trek to reach Makalu Base Camp, the dramatic amphitheatre of glaciers and the fifth-highest peak in the world.
Retrace your steps to Yangla Kharka, enjoying the descent through alpine zones.
Trek to Mumbuk, traversing rocky trails and dense forest.
Cross the Keke La Pass (4127m) and descend to Tashigaon, this is the first permanent village after many days.
Trek from Tashigaon to Num through dense jungle and terraced fields.
Conclude your trek by hiking from Num to Tumlingtar and fly the same day to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel (1350m).
Enjoy a well-earned buffer day for shopping, reflection, or relaxing in Kathmandu. Optionally visit nearby heritage sites.
Final departure from Nepal with memories of one of the most remote and dramatic treks in the Himalayas.
