Trip Overview
“The walking journey to the summit of the most beautiful mountain in Dolpo, through the trails unexplored and untrodden by not many travellers- Kanjirowa Peak Climbing”
6883m, is as high as trekkers/climbers can go during the Kanzirowa Expedition with Explore Dolpo. The stunning Mountain Kanzirowa is a unique peak, worthwhile climbing to experience the high degree of alpine experience and extreme wilderness. Mountains in Dolpo are not scaled by so many climbers, hence the adventure of Kanjirowa Expedition is a journey of a lifetime to the land where not many footprints have been left behind.
Our Kanjirowa Expedition begins at Juphal and winds through the most isolated regions of Dolpo, which are very rarely treaded to the Base Camp of this beautiful peak. The trail to Kanjirowa Base Camp winds through sub-tropical forests and low alpine forests before getting into the treeless zone. The villages encountered throughout the trail are religiously diverse and culturally authentic. The landscapes through the Kanjirowa Peak Climbing Expedition are matchless.
Detailed Itinerary
Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel in Kathmandu. The remainder of the day is at leisure, allowing you to rest from your journey or enjoy a gentle stroll through the bustling streets of Thamel, famed for its colourful shops, cafés, and cultural charm.
In the late afternoon, take a scenic one-hour flight to the lowland city of Nepalgunj, located near the Indian border in the Terai region. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. The evening offers an opportunity to explore the lively local bazaar and taste regional delicacies.
An early morning flight to Juphal reveals stunning aerial views of the Himalayan foothills. From Juphal, drive along the Bheri River valley to Tripurakot, an ancient settlement with a rich blend of Bon and Buddhist traditions. The afternoon is dedicated to trek preparation and a short exploration of the village surroundings.
Begin your journey on foot, following trails that meander through terraced fields and lush forests. As you gradually gain altitude, enjoy sweeping views of the surrounding hills before arriving at Balangchaur, a serene campsite set against a backdrop of alpine scenery.
Today’s trail undulates through mixed pine and rhododendron forests before descending into the culturally rich village of Hurikot, where Dolpo-style architecture and centuries-old monasteries preserve ancient traditions.
Continue along forested ridges and high pastures. The tranquil settlement of Takpoche, surrounded by grazing meadows, offers breathtaking views of nearby peaks.
A gradual ascent brings you to the open expanse of Gau Chaur, a broad alpine meadow used for yak and sheep grazing. The panoramic vistas from here capture the wild beauty of Dolpo.
Take a full day to acclimatise. Optional short hikes to nearby ridges reward you with elevated viewpoints, or you may choose to interact with local herders and learn about their seasonal way of life.
The route crosses open highland pastures and rocky terrain, climbing steadily towards Thulopalta Camp, a strategic stop before entering more challenging elevations.
Follow high-altitude trails with sparse vegetation and increasing exposure to the surrounding peaks. The camp lies beside the Bahiri Puduwa Khola, offering dramatic mountain scenery.
Ascend steadily through rocky slopes and alpine wilderness to reach Bhittipuduwa, a vantage point with uninterrupted views of the high ranges.
Continue your climb toward the base of Kanjirowa Himal. The campsite rests on a moraine plateau, surrounded by glaciers and towering peaks.
Spend the day acclimatising and making final preparations for the climb. Optional ridge walks offer spectacular perspectives of the glacier basin.
A demanding ascent over rocky and icy slopes leads to High Camp. The air is noticeably thinner here, requiring a measured pace.
Undertake light acclimatisation hikes and review climbing strategies. This day ensures readiness for the summit attempt.
Navigate steep and technical sections to reach Camp I. From here, the snowy flanks of Kanzirowa and its neighbouring peaks dominate the skyline.
Begin the summit push in the early hours. Depending on route conditions, the climb may involve mixed snow, ice, and rock. From the summit, enjoy far-reaching views over the Dolpo wilderness before descending to Camp I.
A contingency day to accommodate delays due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances during the summit phase.
